KANPUR: A 40-year-old man was beaten to death allegedly by a brick-kiln owner and his aides on suspicion of theft in Ghera village in Fatehpur district.The main accused has been detained and the police are on the lookout for his aides.Sohan Lal alias Bhagat Raidas, a labourer and a resident of Ghera village, was held captive on Monday and was allegedly beaten to death by Shakti Singh, a brick-kiln owner and his aides. The accused suspected Sohan Lal of stealing his gold chain, Zafarganj police inspector Arvind Kumar said.The incident, however, came to the light on Wednesday after the victim's family alerted Dial 100 police team. The man was later rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Bindki where doctors declared him brought dead, the inspector said."We have received a complaint by the labourer's family, and are in the process of registering an FIR against the accused and his aides under relevant sections of IPC, besides the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The body has been sent for autopsy. Prima facie, it appears external as well as internal injuries both caused the instant death of the labourer. We have recorded the statement of the victim’s family members and also some eyewitnesses. We are collecting crucial evidences in the case," he said.Police further said the main accused -Shakti Singh, a resident of neighbouring Bindaur village, has been taken into custody while he was trying to flee. His interrogation is currently underway. Search for Singh's other aides is going on, they said.During the preliminary questioning, Singh confessed to the crime and told police that he along with his other aides had attacked Sohan Lal suspecting that he had stolen his gold chain, police sources said.
