9 held captive in ashram rescued

KANPUR: Kanpur Dehat police raided an ashram in Shivli area of the district on Thursday and rescued nine people — four men, three women and two minors — who were allegedly confined there.Police raided the ashram, run by one Sadhvi Shalini Shukla, on the basis of information provided by one of the captive women who managed to escape earlier.She had alerted the villagers about the “inhuman” manner in which people were confined” and alleged that the “prisoners” were tortured for not following the diktats of Sadhvi Shalini Shukla and her aides.The villagers then took the woman to a chaupal organised by BJP MP Devendra Singh Bhole.
