KANPUR: Police have arrested one Kuldeep alias Ajay of Dasa Newada village for killing a neighbouring girl Shabnam on June 27 afternoon near Rasadhan village under the limits of Shivrajpur police station of the district. According to police, Kuldeep had shot dead his alleged estranged lover Shabnam on June 27 and fled thereafter. "The police have arrested him from Uttaripura Phatak in the district on late Friday night," said SP (rural) Pradyumna Singh while addressing media on Saturday.Police said that Shabnam, who was pursuing a professional course from a local institute, allegedly had an affair with Kuldeep since past few years. However, later the girl parted her ways with Kuldeep over some differences.Police said that the accused Kuldeep however was pressuring Shabnam to return back to him, but she ignored.On June 27, while Shabnam was returning home from her institute, Kuldeep waylaid her on a bike. Kuldeep, who was armed with a country-made pistol, then entered into a scuffle with Shabnam, later shot one bullet in her chest and quickly left the spot. Fatally wounded Shabnam died at the spot.Sources in the village, however said that Kuldeep, a tailor by profession, was in a relationship with the girl. She then reportedly started seeing another boy, which enraged Kuldeep and he tried to stop her from talking to the other boy. She however refused to pay heed to his wish.A police official said that Kuldeep told investigators that in order to evade his arrest, he had escaped to Delhi, Rajasthan and Haryana.
