KANPUR: Raising demand for building a toilet at home proved costly to a woman in Gangaghat area of Unnao on Monday when her husband and in-laws tried to set her afire after dousing her with kerosene. The woman, who was also severely thrashed, somehow managed to run out of her in-laws' house along with her child.She has submitted a complaint with the police , who are in the process of registering an FIR.The woman, Tarannum, told reporters that there is no toilet at her home. Her demands often led to arguments between her and her husband besides his family. She alleged that her husband used to thrash her whenever she raised this demand. "He and his family members always asked me to bring money from my parents if I wished to have a toilet constructed," she claimed."When on Saturday we had a fight on the issue, my husband beat me up. Later, my mother-in-law poured kerosene on me but I I somehow rushed out of the house to save myself and my child," Tarannum alleged while talking to reporters. She alleged that her in-laws also tried to snatch her child.Tarannum alleged that her in-laws demanded vehicle, jewellery, cash, etc., in dowry.Unnao CO (City) Swatantra Singh said, "We have come to know about the incident and contacted the woman. An FIR in this regard is being filed at Gangaghat police station. Strict action will be taken after a investigation."
