Amar Jawan Jyoti to be lit at Shahid Chowk on July 25

"Amar Jawan Jyoti is located at Shahid Chowk in Ashok Nagar in Motijheel area and consists of a marble pedestal on which a cenotaph is situated. The gas will be supplied till Shahid Chowk and it will be controlled by auto-mode equipment installed at the memorial structure. Amar Jawan (immortal soldier) is scripted of the cenotaph and on top, a self-loading rifle stands on its barrel with a helmet of the Unknown Soldier on top. "Nearly 24 scm (Standard Cubic Meter) unit of PNG costing Rs 1,000 will be consumed daily. In front of it, one would come across the perpetually burning flame," Sharma said.The Rs 15 lakh project was sanctioned in January 2015 and along with other agencies, CUGL completed it in 2016.A pipeline has been laid till the jyoti to light the flames.

KANPUR: In a first of its kind in the state, an Amar Jawan Jyoti (flame of the immortal soldier) will be lit up at Shahid Chowk in Motijheel area of the city on the eve of Kargil Diwas on July 25.Interestingly, when the countrymen will pay homage to the Kargil martyrs, the traditional flame will be lit by eco-friendly piped natural gas (PNG) supplied by CUGL (Central UP Gas Limited) 24x7.Amar Jawan Jyoti is being constructed to commemorate the martyred unknown soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces of Kanpur Nagar and Kanpur Dehat who died during the war, said municipal commissioner Santosh Kumar Sharma."Amar Jawan Jyoti is located at Shahid Chowk in Ashok Nagar in Motijheel area and consists of a marble pedestal on which a cenotaph is situated.
