KANPUR: A three-year-old child lost his life after falling into an open manhole in Sujanpur area under the limits of Panki police station in UP's Kanpur district on Tuesday evening.The residents claimed that the manhole was open and not visible due to flooded water. Usually, a barricading or a wooden log is placed on manholes to avert accidents.Panki station house officer Shesh Narain Pandey said Ansh, son of Rajkumar of Sujanpur, fell into the open manhole as the area was submerged under water.When asked if he found any warning sign at the open manhole, Pandey said he didn't find any such precautionary measure."There was no precautionary sign placed there. You better ask the KMC people," he said.Meanwhile, the victim's family members said, "KMC people are responsible for Ansh's death."Elsewhere, Harishchandra (50), a resident of Basheerganj, an employee of Kanpur Municipal Corporation, drowned when rain water entered his house on Tuesday evening.The incident came to light after locals visited his house and found his body floating on the water surface. They rushed him to Lala Lajpat Rai hospital , where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
