Farmer beats bull to death for destroying crop

KANPUR: A 65-year-old debt-ridden farmer was on Friday arrested for allegedly beating to death a bull which strayed into his farmland and destroyed his maize crop in Basrehar police area of Etawah district The farmer, Ramnath , a resident of Killi Sultanpur village, got angry when he spotted a bull in his maize field on Thursday.As per police, he repeatedly hit the bovine with an iron rod which led to its death.According Basrehar police station in charge Vinay Diwakar , Ramanth told the police that stray cattle had wreaked havoc in his maize field, especially the bull that he killed. He said that he had obtained loan from local money-lenders to sow maize and his crop stood destroyed now. "As per him, the bull had earlier also on many occasions attacked him," Diwakar said.The police on being informed by villagers rushed to the spot and sent the animal carcass for post mortem examination. The police, later lodged a complaint against Ramnath.
