Police crack bank robbery case after 72 hours, 2 arrested

KANPUR: After 72 hours of the Rs 4.45 robbery committed at the Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank in Hanspuram area of Naubasta on Friday, the police cracked the case, and arrested two persons on Monday. "Mukesh had exploded bombs inside the bank, Raj Kumar collected cash from the cash counter, while Suraj protected both Mukesh and Raj Kumar with firearm to facilitate their escape with cash. Their third aide is still at large.Eight special police teams, headed by SP (South) Raveena Tyagi , were formed to crack the bank heist. "She had sustained burn wounds in one of her legs caused by splinters following hurling of bombs by the robbers.

CCTV footages were procured by the police from several junctions during the investigation."We found that two persons, identified as Mukesh Kumar and Suraj Kumar had committed the crime with the help of Raj Kumar ," said SSP Akhilesh Kumar."Mukesh had exploded bombs inside the bank, Raj Kumar collected cash from the cash counter, while Suraj protected both Mukesh and Raj Kumar with firearm to facilitate their escape with cash. The trio had conducted recee of the bank about two months ago. On Friday, after consuming liquor at a country-made liquor shop, the three accused barged inside the bank and committed robbery," the SSP said further and added that the crooks have confessed that they had targeted Hanspuram branch of Baroda Uttar Pradesh Gramin Bank as there was no security guard in the bank".Police have recovered looted cash worth 1.30 lakh from Suraj, Rs 93,000 from Mukesh. They have also recovered 10 bombs, two country-made pistols of 315 bore, several live catridges and a two-wheeler from their possession. The police are now on lookout for their third accomplice Raj Kumar.Praising the police team, Seema Gupta, head mistress at a school in Bidhnoo block of the district, who had gone to withdraw Rs 6,000 from the bank said, "Police did a tremendous job by cracking the case within three days of the crime."She had sustained burn wounds in one of her legs caused by splinters following hurling of bombs by the robbers. She however alleged that the police took too long to reach the spot."I told my husband about the incident at around 1.25 pm, who immediately informed the police control room, but the police reached 45 minutes after the incident," she alleged further.
