KANPUR: Five policemen including a station house officer, two sub-inspectors and two constables were placed under suspension for allegedly assaulting and looting cash from a Dalit goat trader and family in Shivrajpur police station area of the district on August 18.CO Bhagwan Singh who is probing the case said: "Two sub-inspectors - Ram Krishna Mishra and Neeraj Kumar and two constables - Mohit and Amit all posted at Shivrajpur police station were suspended for allegedly looting cash from one Dilip, a goat trader, his father Kallu and brothers Pradeep and Kuldeep. However, SHO Shivrajpur Vivek Yadav was suspended over dereliction of duty."An FIR under relevant sections of IPC, besides SC/ST Act and Prevention of Corruption Act, has also been lodged at Shivrajpur Kotwali police station against two accused SI's and two constables who are on the run.After getting a tip off that a local Dalit goat trader Dilip along with his father Kallu, brothers Pradeep and Kuldeep, is taking animals who will be sacrificed on Id-ul-Azha in a loader near Bhooteshwar temple to various goat markets, the policemen intercepted, severely assaulted them and took the money away. Dilip was admitted to a nearby hospital where he is undergoing treatment.Dilip's brother Pradeep narrated the incident to SSP Akhilesh Kumar on August 19. Kumar appointed circle officer Bhagwan Singh to conduct a probe. "Police examined the CCTV footage installed near Bhooteshwar temple and preliminary investigation led to the involvement of two S-I's Ram Krishna Mishra and Neeraj Kumar, apart from two constables Mohit and Amit. The four have now been suspended. We have registered an FIR," said SSP Akhilesh Kumar. SHO Vivek Yadav, he added, has been suspended for being insensitive towards the incident.According to the police, the accused S-I's and two constables are on the run. The cash they looted cash is yet to be recovered. Locals gheraoed police station and demanded stern action against guilty policemen on Wednesday.BJP MP from Misrikh, Anju Bala also met SSP Akhilesh Kumar and other senior officials and demanded an impartial inquiry into the incident.
