Water released from Narora dam, Ganga swells again

Sources in the irrigation department stated that the water level in Ganga could rise further in the next few days because of regular discharge of water from Narora dam and Haridwar.The ghats too are inundated due to increase in the water level of Ganga. Ganga was flowing at 113.80 metre mark at 8 am, and after 12 hours, the water level further increased to 113.85 metre level. The villagers are on alert and are keeping an eye over the rise in the water level. Similarly, 5 cms rise in the water level was recorded in downstream of the barrage. The rapid increase in Ganga's water level is likely to inundate low-lying areas of Katri region which is a cluster of about a dozen villages.

KANPUR: After dipping down a few centimetres, Ganga has again swelled and is flowing at a gushing speed.A whopping 2.20 lakh cusecs of water was released from Narora dam whereas 3.42 lakh cusec water was discharged into its downstream on Tuesday which will increase the water level in Fatehpur and Allahabad.According to gauge recorded on Tuesday, from the barrage the river was flowing at 114.05 metre mark in its upstream at 8 am on Tuesday which rose by 5 cms at 8 pm. Similarly, 5 cms rise in the water level was recorded in downstream of the barrage. Ganga was flowing at 113.80 metre mark at 8 am, and after 12 hours, the water level further increased to 113.85 metre level. At 8 pm on Tuesday, it was flowing just 15 cms below the warning mark of 114 metre.The current situation has alerted the district administration.
