UP: IAF rescues 8 people stranded on Jhansi island

While the two men were saved by the villagers, the woman died due to drowning. A chopper was flown from Gwalior which airlifted all the stranded villagers to a safe place.As per Jhansi DM Shivsahay Awasthi, I got the news at around 3.15pm and immediately deputed a relief commissioner at the site. JHANSI: The Indian Air Force on Friday evacuated eight people stranded on an island of the Betwa river which was swelling at an alarming rate in Jhansi.The eight villagers who had gone to catch fish in Betwa river got stranded in flash flood.The incident took place in Jhujhanpur village where these villagers had gone to catch fish in River Betwa. We made a requisition for a helicopter which was made available to us in a short period of time. By 6.00pm all the villagers were airlifted to a safe place".Continuous rains have played havoc in Jhansi and in nearby areas for past 18 hours, all the major rivers are flowing above danger mark.

In the afternoon the water level in the river suddenly increased due to continuous heavy rains and as a result, they got stuck in a raised area which got converted into a island.A quick and well-coordinated effort of the local administration with the Indian Army and Air Force brought relief within a couple of hours before the villagers could be airlifted. A chopper was flown from Gwalior which airlifted all the stranded villagers to a safe place.As per Jhansi DM Shivsahay Awasthi, I got the news at around 3.15pm and immediately deputed a relief commissioner at the site. We made a requisition for a helicopter which was made available to us in a short period of time. I also requested for Army personnel who were kept as a standby option. By 6.00pm all the villagers were airlifted to a safe place".Continuous rains have played havoc in Jhansi and in nearby areas for past 18 hours, all the major rivers are flowing above danger mark. In Khailar area of Jhansi, three persons including a woman got washed away when water entered into their house after the wall of a check dam situated near the house got razed and water entered into their house. While the two men were saved by the villagers, the woman died due to drowning.
