Gulabi Gang leader set to play self on silver screen

KANPUR: Known for launching and running Gulabai Gang, an outfit of audacious women in Bundelkhand region who stood for social causes, Sampat Pal has today come a long way. Its members dressed in pink saris and carried a ‘ lathi’ (stick) while fighting for the cause of distressed women.Pal also participated in TV reality show Bigg Boss 6’. I would be playing a role quite similar to my own real life character as Gulabi Gang leader, wherein I talk of women’s welfare and empowerment, besides social reforms and protest against a corrupt system,” she told TOI on Tuesday.Pal, who hails from Banda of Bundelkhand region, had founded the Gulabi Gang way back in 2005. Pal has been signed by Mumbai-based producer Irshad Khan for his upcoming film ‘Jaako Raakhe Saaiyan’, where she will portray her real life role as the outfit commander on silver screen.Pal, who returned from Mumbai recently, said, “I have completed the ‘ muhurat’ of the film ‘ Jaako Raakhe Saaiyan’ in Mumbai in August. The storyline is simple, but very interesting .

The film’s shooting is slated to take place in Meerut, besides various other locations across the state from September 5 to 7,” she said.“The film is based on true events and will be a thriller comedy. The storyline is simple, but very interesting .
