Online liquor delivery racket busted, 1 held

"A case has been registered against Ashish at Kalyanpur police station and he has been sent to jail. A search is on to arrest Rohit," said an official.

KANPUR: The district excise department busted a racket delivering liquor on call at specified address in Kanpur after it found a website www.piopilao.in booking orders via a toll free number mentioned on the website.The racketeers procured liquor from shops and bars and made door-to-door deliveries to customers in the city.Sources said that excise officials dialled the toll free number 18002585900 on the website on Saturday and booked delivery of two liquor bottles at Namak factory crossing and were asked to provide their name and mobile number. After some time, a man came on a two-wheeler and delivered two bottles and charged Rs 50 extra on each. The excise team arrested the man, identified as Ashish Kumar of Garg road, Raipurwa and seized his bike and liquor bottles.Investigation revealed that Ashish and his aide Rohit Agarwal used to book orders for delivery of liquor across the city. Ashish however could not provide the address of Rohit.Sources in excise department said they are on the lookout for one other similar website."A case has been registered against Ashish at Kalyanpur police station and he has been sent to jail. Raids are on to nab Rohit, who was running the website," said district excise official Rajesh Kumar Mishra An excise official said that www.piopilao.in website offered a range of alcoholic beverage brands to select from and get it delivered at your doorstep.The website further said, "With a stringent age verification process and compliance procedures, piopilao's home delivery service aims to build a safe drinking environment in India.""There's strong evidence that the racketeers were using social media including Facebook Twitter and Instagram to sell liquor.
