KANPUR: A wanted criminal carrying a reward of Rs 25,000, who tried to escape from police custody after snatching an AK-47 rifle from a constable, was arrested after an encounter with police in Chakeri area of Kanpur on Monday. He sustained a bullet wound in his leg and has been admitted to a hospital.

He sustained a bullet wound in his leg and has been admitted to a hospital."A team from Chakeri police station arrested Mohsin from his Fahimabad house early Monday morning in connection with a recent Rs 4.5 lakh loot in Kanpur," said SSP Anant Deo. "The police vehicle in which Mohsin was being taken to the police station, developed a snag. When the police were attending to the snag, he snatched the AK-47 rifle from a constable and jumped out of the vehicle , running towards the forest. The police ran behind him and on being challenged, he fired thrice from the AK-47. The bullets missed the target. In the retaliatory firing, the criminal was injured in in his leg," the SSP added.The police have recovered Rs 3.76 lakh from Mohsin which he and his two accomplices had looted from a trader in Shyamnagar.
