KANPUR: Upset over the allegations of 'love affair', a 45-year-old sadhu cut off his private part in Banda district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday.The shocking incident was reported from Kamasin town in the district. The injured Sadhu has been admitted to a trauma centre at district hospital in a serious condition.Deputy Superintendent of Police (City) Raghvendra Singh told TOI that the sadhu, identified as Maidani Baba, has been living in an 'ashram' on a land which was lying vacant at the Dando road forest cover since past few years.He further stated that Maidani Baba, who was on nine-day Navratra fasting, was very much disturbed over the allegations about his love-affair with a local woman."In his preliminary statement, Maidani Baba has held two persons responsible for his extreme step. He said both were trying to tarnish his image by linking his name with a village woman. We have lodged an FIR under relevant sections of IPC in this regard and are investigating the matter further. Arrests are likely to be made, once the charges levelled will be corroborated," said the DSP further.The incident came to light after some villagers found the sadhu lying in a pool blood when they reached his `ashram' on Friday.They immediately alerted the local police, who in turn reached the spot and rushed the injured sadhu to a nearby clinic from where he was later referred to the district hospital trauma centre.Doctors at the hospital stated the condition of sadhu to be serious, the police said. "Doctors informed that nearly 80 per cent of the man's private part has been cut off from his body and a surgery has been performed," police said further.
