KANPUR: A 28-year-old physically challenged sweetmeat shop vendor allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from ceiling at his house in Auraiya 's Lahrapur Diuari locality after being thrashed by local goons, who were trying to extort money from him for consuming liquor on late Sunday night.The suicide triggered tension after his family members and locals staged a protest on Rasoolabad-Lahrapur road demanding arrest of the accused and necessary release of monetary compensation.They later also indulged in heavy brick-batting causing chaos and leaving several people injured. The police resorted to force and even fired several shots in the air. Police later pacified the agitators and sent the body for a postmortem.A suicide note was recovered, wherein the victim identified as Natthu Gupta, stated that he was deeply pained and hurt following severe thrashing by Guddu Neta, Shyamu Singh and one Shailendra Kushwaha of the locality on October 26.The note further read that the trio was trying to extort money from him for consuming liquor. His family members too alleged that Natthu had apprised them about the beating at the hands of Guddu Neta, Shyamu Singh and one Shailendra Kushwaha on October 26 night and he was suffering from depression since then."An investigation has been set up in the matter and guilty will be brought to book, said SP Auraiya Triveni Singh. "The deceased, Natthu Gupta, was allegedly thrashed by a local men recently," he added."As per his family members, Nathhu had killed himself after the assault. The deceased has also left a suicide note wherein he had stated that he was committing suicide after being severely beaten up by the men, who were demanding extortion money for consuming liquor. An FIR has been lodged under IPC sections including 306 (Abetment of suicide)," Singh added.
