KANPUR: Unnao district administration on Saturday sealed a godown, and seized a huge cache of firecrackers stocked there. According to the district administration officials, the estimated cost of the stocked firecrackers is around Rs 10 crore.Acting on the tip-off, the district administration raided the godown situated in Jawahar Kheda area under Unnao Sadar Kotwali The officials said that the stocked firecrackers which were more than the sanctioned quantity, posed risk to the lives of the people residing near the godown."After undertaking the survey, the lekhpal in his report stated that the firecrackers stocked in the godown were above the permissible limit, and posed risk to lives of the people and the property. The necessary documents for stocking the firecrackers were also missing. Neither the owner or his representative was present at the godown," said SDM Pooja Agnihotri while talking to mediapersons. The prescribed norms for stockpiling firecrackers were also not being followed. The godown has been sealed till its owners present complete papers before us, the SDM further said. They have been given time to present the documents, she added.She said the godown was housing a huge cache of firecrackers whose estimated cost is about Rs 10 crore. "We have sealed the godown. Further, investigation is underway. No arrest has been made so far", she added.Officials said that during the raid at the godown, it was found that only daily wage workers were working on the spot and there were no safety arrangements to tackle any mishap.
