KANPUR: A massive fire broke out in a factory situated in Akrampur Industrial Estate in Unnao on Sunday morning. The fire mishap caused panic following which the factory workers ran outside the premises to save their lives.The locals apprised the police about the incident after which the cops and fire tenders rushed to the spot. Several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the inferno. Some fire tenders were rushed to Unnao from neighbouring Kanpur district . Police said chips were manufactured in this factory.After several hours of firefighting, the tall flames could be doused but by then it had caused major damage to the factory which had got engulfed in dense black smoke. There was no loss of life in the mishap. Locals had gathered in and around the factory in large numbers following which police had a tough time in managing them. However, the cause of the fire mishap could not be ascertained. Investigation by the Fire department is underway.Circle Officer, (City) Umesh Chandra Tyagi told TOI that about 30 people were inside the factory when the fire broke out at 8am on Sunday. He said that all the factory workers were rescued safely and there was no loss of life.
