KANPUR: After remaining illuminated for nearly 24 hours on December 8, the power to Saifai airstrip in Etawah was again snapped due to non-payment of bills.The state-owned power distribution company, Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (DVVNL), had snapped electricity supply due to non-payment of bills amounting to nearly Rs 1 crore on November 30.Power department officials said temporary supply was given for a day on December 8 on the orders of departmental seniors as aircraft of several VVIP’s, including governor of Uttarakhand Babyrani Maurya, was to land at the airstrip.“The airstrip was provided temporary supply for one day as planes of several VVIPs were to land at the airstrip,” executive engineer of power department Jhabburam told TOI.Sources said district officials have urged DVVNL to restore supply and a letter has been sent to the government with a plea that dues will be cleared soon.
