House, water tax likely to be charged in single bill

Kanpur: As the government is considering to realise house tax and water tax together for the city in a single bill, it has directed officials of Kanpur Municipal Corporation and (KMC) and Jalkal department to chalk out a plan and then execute the same after due sanction.According to sources, the two departments--KMC and Jalkal--would issue a single bill displaying therein the taxes under respective heads enabling the tax payer to pay a single bill instead of two.As per rules, the house owners at present pay 15% of the annual letting value of their house, and for water and sewer tax they deposit 12.5% and 4 % of annual letting value of the house respectively. The director had also sought information about the number of online depositors and the amount collected by the KMC.Rajeev Shukla, KMC's chief tax assessment officer, confirmed that the government had sought information about the number of employees and the revenue collection system, which would be furnished soon.According a KMC official, the municipal corporation realises around Rs 154 crore as house tax while the Jalkal department collects Rs 104 crore as water and sewer taxes.According to a source, though KMC has divided the city into 110 wards, but it has not adequate number of employees to realise taxes from the residents.
