KANPUR: The Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) will convert as many as 25 crossings of the city into smart crossing , each based on a different theme. These renovated crossings would also convey social messages like ‘Beti bachao’ and ‘Beti Padhao’ through bric-a-brac.Kanpur Nagar has already been selected for Smart City scheme and necessary construction work has been initiated in the city. KMC, the nodal agency of the project, has decided to convert 25 main crossings of the city into smart crossings, said chief executive engineer KMC Manish Kumar Singh.Singh said that KMC would spend around Rs seven lakh on each crossing and total expenditure was estimated to be about Rs 1.75 crore. The funds would be provided by 14th Vitta Ayog. The work has been started at Rajeev Petrol Pump Tiraha.The executive engineer apprised that a five-member committee had been constituted to purchase designer goods for smart crossings. The committee headed by executive engineer of zone 5 Ashok Bhati comprises executive engineer zone 3 Rajveer Singh, in charge engineer zone 2 R K Singh, assistant engineer zone 1 Zahoor Alam and Rashid Abbas Kirti Stambh of red stone would also be raised at some crossings. The proposed crossings are Ganga barrage, Ganga bridge crossing, Shiv temple crossing, State Bank of India crossing, Lal Imli crossing, Green Park crossing, Bhatia Tiraha, Goal crossing, Bara Devi crossing, and Ganga bridge.Ashok Bhati said that around 25 crossings would be beautified and developed by the KMC on a different theme. A bric-a brac would also be installed to convey messages about Swachcha Bharat Mission, Skill Development, environment conservation etc.
