Cops verifying documents of donors in transplant cases

Kanpur: Finding it difficult to piece together the evidence in the international kidney racket case busted in the city last month the police are now busy in the process of documenting the case properly because the transplant of donor-cum-kidney racketeer Ramu Pandey, one among the eight arrested members of international kidney racket, was done about 20 years ago.Pandey and Shyam Tiwari were arrested from Barra area of the city on Saturday for their alleged involvement in the kidney racket.“It is an uphill task for us since the donor-cum-kidney racketeer Ramu Pandey had got his kidney transplanted about 20 years ago. Also, the police have started doing verification of voter ID and Aadhaar cards used by donors for organ transplant, and the same would be dispatched to concerned departments to check their veracity, he added.To recall, police had also seized several documents related to previous organ transplants done at PSRI and Fortis Hospital in New Delhi besides recording the statements of 12 persons, including doctors, para medical staff and coordinators of the two hospitals.Police had busted the kidney racket on February 17 and arrested Gaurav of Lakhimpur Kheri, T Rajkumar Rao of Kolkata, Shailesh Saxena of Badarpur (New Delhi), Saboor Ahmad of Kakori (Lucknow), Vicky Singh of Panki (Kanpur) and Shamshad Ali of Chowk (Lucknow).
