Illegal firearms factory unearthed, three arrested

Kanpur: Police on late Saturday night unearthed an illegal firearms factory being operated in a house in Paschim Para village under Bidhnoo police station in the district. Ten finished and a large number of unfinished firearms were seized by the police team from the factory, he said.The SP said police have arrested three persons, identified as Manoj, Uma Shankar and Gorey Lal, all residents of separate pockets of the district in this connection. Three persons have been arrested and large number of finished and semi-finished weapons and tools were recovered from the factory.SP (Rural) Pradyumna Singh told mediapersons that acting on a tip-off, a police team on late Saturday night, raided a house in Paschim Para village of Bidhnoo where an illegal arms factory was found operational. The other gang members would be arrested soon on the basis of the tip-off provided by the accused, he said.The custody remand of three arrested persons would be taken to gather more information about the manufacturing of illegal firearms, he added.“During interrogation, the accused informed the police that owing to upcoming Lok Sabha polls, demand for illegal guns has gone up, and they were manufacturing weapons 24x7 to cater to the demand,” said an official privy to the investigation.
