Couple's bodies found hanging in Bithoor village

KANPUR: In a suspected suicide pact, a 23-year-old youth and a 18-year-old girl ended life by hanging themselves from a tree in Tikkanpurwa village in Bithoor police area of the district. The incident came to light on Thursday morning after the locals spotted the bodies and alerted the police control room.The deceased have been identified as Pramod Maurya and Komal Maurya , residents of Tikkanpurwa Barhat Bangar village. SHO, Bithoor Sudhir Kumar, said Pramod worked as a supervisor in a private firm in the city. According to the police the couple was in a relationship for the last couple of years but the boy's family was against it. Later, they were informed about the couple's death after some people spotted the bodies on Thursday morning.The boys family suspected a foul play and created ruckus demanding the police to get the site examined by forensic experts before shifting the bodies for postmortem examination.

It is suspected that the two entered into a suicide pact.Circle officer Kalyanpur Ajay Kumar said though the exact reason for the suicide is yet to be found, it was found that the couple was upset as the youth's marriage was fixed on May 12. SHO, Bithoor Sudhir Kumar, said Pramod worked as a supervisor in a private firm in the city. "Both of them belonged to Maurya community," he added.Police officials said on Wednesday night, their families noticed that they were missing from their houses and started looked around for them. Later, they were informed about the couple's death after some people spotted the bodies on Thursday morning.The boys family suspected a foul play and created ruckus demanding the police to get the site examined by forensic experts before shifting the bodies for postmortem examination. They also tried to block Mandhana-Bithoor road, but timely intervention and assurances by senior police officials prevented the situation from worsening.The couple had used a black ribbon to hang themselves and boy's wrist was found to be slashed, said the SHO. "The police are investigating the matter with the help of forensic inputs. The bodies have been sent for the post mortem," he said and added, a heavy deployment of police and PAC personnel has been made to avoid any untoward incident.
