Etawah MP joins Cong, cites insult by party

Katheria is the current MP from Agra, is also the chairman of SC/ST Commission.Dohre joined the party in presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday morning in Delhi. I did not quit because the party didn’t give me a ticket. The BSP candidate stood third on this seat with 1.92 lakh votes. After resigning from the service, he unsuccessfully contested in the Ajitmal Assembly Bye-elections in 2004..Thereafter in 2007, he was elected as an MLA.

Kanpur: Etawah BJP MP Ashok Kumar Dohre, who joined the Congress on Friday, said that he had made up his mind to quit BJP after facing “continuous humiliation from the party leadership”.Dohre, who is all set to contest Lok Sabha polls on Congress ticket from Etawah, which is a reserved seat, said: “I was willing to work for BJP, but I was facing humiliation in the party. After discussing all issues with my supporters, I arrived at the decision. I did not quit because the party didn’t give me a ticket. I was even then ready to work for the party, but I couldn’t compromise as far as my dignity is concerned.”Sources close to Dohre meanwhile said that the MP was upset over the absence of his pictures from banners and posters in recently held election rally addressed by deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya in Auraiya.“He was surprised on not finding pictures in the hoardings and banners erected in the election rally of Maurya in Auraiya on March 24,” said a source close to Dohre.BJP had dropped Dohre this time and announced Ramshankar Katheria as its candidate from Etawah parliamentary seat. Katheria is the current MP from Agra, is also the chairman of SC/ST Commission.Dohre joined the party in presence of Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Friday morning in Delhi. BJP has fielded Ram Shankar Katheria, while SP has given ticket to Kamlesh Katheria son of a former MP Prem Shankar Katheria.A native of Rampura village in Auraiya, Dohre was employed as a village panchayat officer in the state government. After resigning from the service, he unsuccessfully contested in the Ajitmal Assembly Bye-elections in 2004..Thereafter in 2007, he was elected as an MLA. in the Assembly Elections and served as a cabinet minister in the state government.In 2014, Ashok Kumar Dohare had won the Etawah Lok Sabha seat by securing 4.39 lakh votes, while Samajwadi Party candidate stood second and secured 2.66 lakh votes. The BSP candidate stood third on this seat with 1.92 lakh votes. Congress candidate had secured just 13,000 votes.
