SP fields ex-MP’s son from Kanpur

Kanpur: The Samajwadi Party on Saturday fielded Ram Kumar — the younger son of former Kanpur MP Manohar Lal — from the Kanpur Lok Sabha seat. “I have learnt politics from my father, who was a leading politican of his time. But in 2004, he lost the assembly poll. I am sure to get love from Kanpur people,” he added.Pachauri had lost to Jaiswal in 2004, with a margin of little over 5,600 votes.The BJP has again reposed its faith on Pachauri and the local leadership is firmly behind him to ensure his victory. Party sources said Kumar’s name was finalised after several rounds of meetings.Local leaders were also taken into consideration while finalising his name.Kumar told the media that he was ready to contest the election from the prestigious Kanpur seat and would surely emerge victorious.He said though he was an MLA from Unnao, but is not unfamiliar with Kanpur.

Now, it would be a triangular fight between Congress candidate Shriprakash Jaiswal, BJP’s Satyadeo Pachauri and Kumar.A resident of Wajidpur area of Jajmau, Kumar is a lawyer by profession and is also a former MLA from Unnao Sadar assembly segment.Manohar Lal was a Rashtriya Lok Dal MP from Kanpur from 1977 to 1980.His brother Deepak has also been an MP from Unnao constituency in 1999. But in 2004, he lost the assembly poll.
