Peeved over civic woes, localslock corporator in his house

Kanpur: Peeved over water logging and faulty street lights on the roads, corporator of ward no. 27 Suni Paswan was held hostage in his house on Monday by the residents.They said that they had approached their corporator several times regarding the problems they have been facing due to waterlogging and faulty street lights in the ward, but the corporator of the area did not pay any heed. We lodged our protest against his indifferent attitude outside his house. To teach him a lesson, we held him hostage in his house. We will continue our protest in this way until our problems are resolved, said a resident of the area.The corporator however showed copies of the applications submitted to the municipal corporation from the window of his office located in the house itself.Later, after intervention by some senior citizens, the corporator was taken out of his house. The corporator said that the biggest problem of his ward is the defunct street lights due to which incidents of crime are on the rise. Locals are agitated as as their problems are not being resolved. Their demands are justified. This handover ensures that a single agency, KMC, will be responsible for maintaining the entire high-speed corridor. The move is expected to benefit the New Garia-Kolkata Airport Metro project by reducing coordination efforts. KMC officials acknowledge the need for expertise, manpower, and tools to maintain these structures effectively. Additionally, the revenues generated from advertising and displays on these structures will now accrue to KMC.
