LLR bans vaccine after its ill effect on patients

Kanpur: The Lala Lajpat Rai (LLR) hospital authorities have banned the use of metronidazole injection. This step has been taken after condition of some patients deteriorated on Tuesday following the administration of these injections.Chief superintendent of the hospital Dr R K Singh said all medicines supplied to the hospital have been withdrawn and will now be sent for further testing. Apart from these, stock of metronidazole vaccines in the store has been sealed and a committee of five doctors has been formed to investigate the case, he said.He added that now only metrogyl injections from the Medical Supply Corporation will be administered to patients in the hospital.Dr Singh said the injection which caused deterioration of the condition of some patients is being supplied by an Ahmedabad firm. We have banned purchase of this medicine since it caused condition of several patients to deteriorate after its use in the maternity and childrens ward, said Dr Singh further.Metronidazole injection is used to remove infections from the body, said a senior doctor at LLR, adding, It also helps re-energise body of patients suffering weakness.
