Bar assn to set up new elders panel

Kanpur: The lawyers Association on Thursday convened a meeting and discussed the current form of elders committee. The executive members were apprised that three members, Devi Prasad Tripathi, Niyaz Ahmad Khan and Yudhveer Singh have passed away and since remaining members of the elders committee are too old and incapable to move, the quorum of elders committee is incomplete. According to president of the executive committee Ravindra Sharma, it was decided to dissolve the previous elders committee and constitute a new panel and nominate only advocates who are practising law. The incident occurred when the man refused to give the police officer money for liquor. The victim stated that the officer would demand money from people in the area and when he refused, he was beaten with a baton. Forest officials assured to chase the elephants away, and the protest was withdrawn. In another incident, a forest department driver was fatally attacked by a wild elephant in Palasgaon jungle. The driver was monitoring the presence of a herd in the area. Forest officials are working with an NGO to address the human-elephant conflict.
