Kanpur: A Nigerian national created a fake account on Instagram and cheated a woman from the city of lakhs of rupees on the pretext of sending her expensive gifts.Posing as officials of different departments, he and his aides made several phone calls and asked for money on one pretext or another from the woman.When the woman realised she had been cheated, she registered a case with Babupurwa police, following which, two accused were arrested, including the Nigerian national. Police identified the arrested as John (Nigerian national) putting up in Tilak Nagar, New Delhi and Harjeet of Mahavir Enclave, Palam, New Delhi.The woman from Bagahi Bakarganj Transport Nagar area of the city said that John had introduced himself to her as Alex Johnson. While chatting online, he told her he was an eye specialist and lived in Italy, she said. I started liking him and after he sent me his number, we started chatting on WhatsApp and calling each other on regular basis, she said.
