Kanpur: Police on Monday have arrested Ghanshyam Shukla (31) in connection with the recovery of a decomposed body of a woman in a house under the limits of Kakwan police station of the district on Sunday.Ghanshyam has confessed to the murder of his wife Anjali (25), said deputy commissioner of police, West, (DCP) Vijay Dhull. The police have recovered a spade and a dupatta which Ghanshyam had used to strangle his wife on the basis of information provided by him, he said.Ghanshyam had murdered his wife and buried her body in the courtyard of the house.Ghanshayam used to tell people of the village that Anjali is his wife, but no one has ever seen or heard of their marriage, the DCP said.The DCP said that when he was asked the reason for murdering his wife, he said that he was addicted to drinking which often led to quarrel with Anjali. A few days ago, he had a fight with Anjali over the same issue, even then he was drunk and murdered her. Later, he dug a pit in the courtyard of the house and buried Anjalis body and fled, he said. The DCP further said that Ghanshyam has a criminal history. A case had been registered in 2018 against him in Kakwan police station for kidnapping and the Arms Act. He is being sent to jail in judicial custody today, the official added.
