Video of animal sacrifice goes viral, police probe underway

Kanpur: A video of an animal sacrifice in Bhairampur village of Naubasta police station area in Kanpur has gone viral on social media in which a priest could be seen holding a piglet and having a heated argument with a woman, who is protesting and asking him to not sacrifice the animal.After the video went viral, the police took the priest, who was performing the sacrifice, into custody. In the video, the priest while performing the sacrifice could also be heard threatening the woman. Introducing himself as Lalit Verma, resident of Bhairampur village, the priest told the woman to do whatever she wanted as he was not afraid of anyone. The Naubasta police detained the priest on the basis of the viral video.TOI however does not confirm the veracity of the viral video. Assistant commissioner of police (Naubasta) Abhishek Pandey said that during interrogation, priest Lalit Verma told them that it (animal sacrifice) was old tradition, and their ancestors had been observing it for years.
