Volvo sleeper bus overturns on Agra e-way, 14 passengers injured

Kanpur: Nearly 14 passengers were injured when a private Volvo sleeper bus overturned after crashing into the divider on Agra-Lucknow Expressway in Usrahar police station area of Etawah district on Sunday morning.According to police, the driver of the sleeper bus heading to Lucknow from Delhi via Agra Lucknow Expressway in Usrahar police station area, at around 6 am crashed into the divider near Km No. 124 Khargua and overturned.As soon as the bus overturned, chaos prevailed among the passengers and the staff. Their loud shrieks attracted the passerby, who alerted the police control room.As soon as the information was received, the Kudrail Expressway outpost police and Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) team and Usrahar police reached the spot and safely pulled out the passengers from the bus.The injured were rushed to Saifai medical college Etawah in ambulances.There were about 65 passengers in the bus. The bus crashed into the divider and overturned as its driver Shankar Singh, resident of Morena district Khadiya in Madhya Pradesh, apparently dozed off.A total of 14 injured were admitted to the Safai medical college soon as information about the incident was received.Circle Officer (CO) Bharthana Vivek Jawla reached the spot. The remaining passengers were sent to their destinations through other vehicles and the bus was removed and parked near Chowpla village. As per the preliminary investigations, the cause of the accident is stated to be dozing off the bus driver.
