Absconding former BJP leader appears before Kanpur court

Kanpur: Former BJP leader Priya Ranjan Ashu Diwakar, who is a prime accused in a farmer suicide case and had been on the run, appeared before the court of chief metropolitan magistrate, Kanpur Nagar, on Friday and submitted the Allahabad high court order which has stayed his arrest till December 5. HC had passed an interim order on November 23 staying legal proceedings against Diwakar by the Kanpur court.The high court has extended its interim order till December 5. The court clerk in his report stated that as the chargesheet against accused Priya Ranjan Ashu Diwakar has not been filed in the court as yet, therefore, the application, affidavit and order of the high court be sent to the Chakeri police and the police commissioner for necessary proceedings. According to defence counsel Shiva Kant Dikshit, the certified copy of HC order and other related papers were presented in theKanpur court on Friday. Farmer Babu Singh had died by suicide by jumping before a moving train in September 9 and his suicide note alleged that Priya Ranjan had usurped his land.Singhs wife had filed a report against Diwakar and his aides Bablu Yadav, Rahul Jain, Madhur Pandey, Shivam Singh Chauhan and Jitendra Yadav at the Chakeri police station. The police, on the complaint filed by Babu Singhs wife Bittan Devi, had registered a case of cheating, land grabbing and abetment to commit suicide and other sections against all the accused. Rahul Jain and Madhur Pandey were arrested and sent to jail while four other accused, including Priya Ranjan Ashu Diwakar, were absconding. The police had sought an order of attachment of his property from the court, and had also declared a reward of Rs one lakh on his head. Priya Ranjan Diwakar applied for anticipatory bail before the high court and claimed in his affidavit that on September 13, 2023 between 6 pm and 7 pm he was with inspector Chakeri police station Ashok Dubey at his friends residence in Kidwai Nagar. In support of his claim, he also claimed that he had a conversation with ACP Chakeri Amarnath Yadav and in its had filed a CDR. He said the police had never informed him that he was wanted in this case and was not arrested. The HC heard his anticipatory bail application on Tuesday last. The government advocate sought time from the high court to reply to Priya Ranjans affidavit which the court granted till December 5.Joint police commissioner Anand Prakash Tiwari stated that the police would file a detailed reply in the high court on the stipulated date as Priya Ranjan in his affidavit had presented twisted facts before it.
