Singer's woes a problem of late risers, says Vinay Katiyar

KANPUR: Under fire for his tweets about 'forced religiousness', singer Sonu Nigam received flak from an unexpected quarter when firebrand BJP MP Vinay Katiyar said only those who sleep till late hours have problem with loudspeakers calling azaan in mosques or playing bhajans in temples. "But then again, even if it traverses far off, there's nothing wrong in it, because it helps people wake up early... "Katiyar, however, said, there should be some regulations like reducing the volume, or the size of loudspeakers so that the sound could be limited to the premises of the mosque and temple. He however went on to clarify that he is against the use of loudspeakers in temples and it was a noise issue rather than a religious one.

The problem is only with those who are in habit of sleeping till late," said Katiyar, talking to reporters in the city.On Monday, Nigam had expressed, through a volley of tweets, his annoyance at being woken up by azaan (the Islamic call to prayer) and termed the use of loudspeakers as "forced religiousness" and "gundagardi". He however went on to clarify that he is against the use of loudspeakers in temples and it was a noise issue rather than a religious one.
