Donkey protest stalls traffic in Banda

Bihari Lal , one among the protesters, said that hundreds of poor sand-mining labourers were suffering because of the ban. The situation was however brought under control with the intervention of senior district and police officials. "Our donkeys serve us by carrying sand to the local market from the river. KANPUR: Scores of labourers along with their donkeys held a protest at Ashok Ki Laat crossing close to the the collectorate in Banda district on Wednesday.Labourers engaged in sand mining, who used to dig sand from Ken river in Banda district are facing problems due to the ban imposed on its mining following high court orders.The labourers said that the ban was not only affecting their livelihood, even poor animals (donkeys) were suffering. Our concern is not for our families alone, but also for these poor animals who play a major role in making our both ends meet," Bihari added.It was the moral responsibility of the state government to address the concern of labourers, said Kallu , an another protester.The police had to use mild force to disperse the protesters and the animals as they were trying to enter into the collectorate premises.
