KANPUR: A powerful explosion annihilated the third-storey of a house in Kanshiram Colony in Chhibramau area of Kannuaj on Sunday , killing one person and injuring at least seven others.The blast was so powerful that the roof of the house was blown off and household items were strewn all around. Police aren't sure about what triggered the blast, however, initial reports revealed that there were firecrackers or some kind of explosive material stored in the house. "We have found some remains of firecrackers and household utensils from the accident site. It is not easy to say as to what had caused the explosion but we are waiting for the forensic report,"said a police official on condition of anonymity .Police said the deceased was identified as Neeraj, son of Bablu who owned the house, and a native of Barbatapur.Police are not ruling out any illegal activity that might was underway at the house. "Prima facie, it seems that some explosive material might have exploded, but we are not sure. The bomb squad and forensic experts are trying to ascertain the cause," said SP Harish Chandra.The injured were identified as Bablu, Rishipal, Sachin, Amit, Satyawati and two others. They have been admitted to Kannauj Medical College.
