Open defecation free village readies for date with President Ram Nath Kovind

Village children are particularly pleased as they have learnt that President Ram Nath Kovind and a number of VVIPs, including governor Ram Naik and chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi will arrive at the village in helicopters. The Ishwariganj village head, women and schoolchildren took lead by ensuring that their small village becomes ODF within a given time.Kumar said that in Ishwariganj village there is also an `anti-lota' party comprising women and children. A newly constructed link road will offer a smooth ride to VVIPs as they visit the village.The programme is also likely to be attended by chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi and governor Ram Naik. A makeshift helipad is coming up in the village for the arrival of the President. The village boasts of one basic and one junior high school, besides an `aanganwadi' centre.

KANPUR: There is hectic activity in the sleepy village of Ishwariganj in Kalyanpur here as it prepares to give a red carpet welcome to President Ram Nath Kovind on September 15.Although the final itinerary of the President is yet to be released, district officials said that Kovind is likely to take part in Swachhta Mission programme at Ishwariganj village of Kalyanpur block which was declared the first open defecation free (ODF) village of the district on November 28, 2016.Chief development officer Arun Kumar said that Ishwariganj village has been decla red ODF in 2016. The village boasts of one basic and one junior high school, besides an `aanganwadi' centre. It enjoys uninterrupted power supply ."There are 379 families and all have latrines. We had started work on this in 2013 and now we have achieved our goal," Kumar said. The task of providing toilets in every household was not an easy one, he added. The Ishwariganj village head, women and schoolchildren took lead by ensuring that their small village becomes ODF within a given time.Kumar said that in Ishwariganj village there is also an `anti-lota' party comprising women and children. "Every morning, from 4am onwards, the party monitors the villages and stops people from defecating in open. They whistle or make noise if they come across anyone defecating in open.The party also sensitise villagers through `nukkad natak' (steet play) and other means, on ill-effect poor sanitation," he said. A makeshift helipad is coming up in the village for the arrival of the President. A newly constructed link road will offer a smooth ride to VVIPs as they visit the village.The programme is also likely to be attended by chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi and governor Ram Naik. Villagers of Ishwariganj are a happy lot and consider themselves to be lucky .They feel that the President's visit will bring modern amenities for them. Village children are particularly pleased as they have learnt that President Ram Nath Kovind and a number of VVIPs, including governor Ram Naik and chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi will arrive at the village in helicopters.
