Medical college gets new CT scanner

Shylaja on Sunday inaugurated a new 128-slice modern CT scanner at the Government Medical College, Ernakulam. The scanner will be part of the proposed ?25-crore Imaging and Diagnostic Centre at the medical college. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the government was paying attention to improving basic facilities at the medical college. John Fernandes, MLA, had allocated ?5 crore from his local area development fund to procure the CT scanner which cost ?5.31. Ms. Shylaja said the tender for the ?255-crore Phase-I work on the development of the medical college had been awarded, and work would start soon.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said the government was paying attention to improving basic facilities at the medical college. Besides, there is renewed focus on integration of staff and super speciality courses, which are required as per Medical Council of India norms for recognition of postgraduate courses. John Fernandes, MLA, had allocated ?5 crore from his local area development fund to procure the CT scanner which cost ?5.31. An additional ?31.6 lakh was provided by the Medical Education Department. The scanner will be part of the proposed ?25-crore Imaging and Diagnostic Centre at the medical college. Ms. Shylaja said the tender for the ?255-crore Phase-I work on the development of the medical college had been awarded, and work would start soon. The government has also created 400 new posts of laboratory technicians and pharmacists. The posts were created after an interval of around 30 years, the Minister added.
