At the last count, the district administration was operating 31 camps spread across seven taluks accommodating 3,254 people from 956 families. District Collector K. Mohammed Y. Safirulla said that tahsildars have been asked to make all arrangements, including medical service, at the camps. Kochi taluk comprising Chellanam and Vypeen, faced with intense sea erosion, was the worst affected and accounted for the most number of inmates at relief camps. Six camps in the taluk had 2,075 people from 559 families. Camps had been opened at Leo English Medium and St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Chellanam; St. Peter’s L.P. School, Elamkunnapuzha; Government High School, Panayapally; Corporation Town Hall, Palluruthy; and Puthuvype U.P. School. Muvattupuzha taluk had 168 people from 59 families in the relief camps opened at Town U.P. School; prayer hall at Parappalil in Piravom; South Maradi; private farm and NSS Auditorium at Kakkoor; primary health centre, Kuraynmala; and NSS auditorium, Kadathi. Kothamangalam taluk accounted for 131 inmates from 35 families in the relief camps. Camps had been opened at Government L.P. School, Thrikkariyoor and Town U.P. School, Kothamangalam. In Kanayannur taluk, 286 people from 115 families remain in the camps opened at Bhaskaran Community Hall, Irumpanam; Kendriya Vidyalaya, Kadavanthra; and St. Mary’s UP School, Thuthiyoor. A single camp for 131 people from 35 families had been opened at St. Joseph’s High School at Chengal in Aluva taluk. In Paravur taluk, 153 people from 427 families remain in the camps.
