Kerala floods: Students stranded in campuses, no rescue in sight

Food is also in short supply. All our request for help has fallen on deaf ears. Being the only high rise building in the area, people have taken refuge here,“ said medical superintendent Dr Anoop Vincent Dr Vincent added that the first floor of the hospital is fully water logged. “The condition is brim and we are now unable to connect with our family members. Internet is also not working. So far only 20 % people have been rescued from here,” added Dr Vincent.Meanwhile, in Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit. Kalady, around 600 plus people are stuck in the second and third floor of the utility centre. “Since the hostels are waterlogged, around 7 am all the students from the four hostels shifted to the utility centre. But here there is no water or electricity added with lack of adequate toilet facilities,” said Sharanya U, research scholar, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit, who is also stranded there.“Though the helicopters have been moving on top of the building, so far they have not been able to reach us,” she added.Meanwhile, as there was flooding in Aluva, some of the hospitals in town were closed down by afternoon.
