Navy vessel brings 8 lakh litres drinking water to Kerala

The IRCTC has already provided 2 lakh litres of water while another 5.6 lakh litres will reach Thiruvananthapuram early on Monday morning by train from Pune. Tamil Nadu has already sent 1.68 lakh litres of water to the state.Parts of the state, especially Kochi, are facing a drinking water shortage after the floods . Officials said the drinking water supply to Kochi city would be partially restored by Tuesday. KOCHI: The Western Naval Command on Sunday afternoon brought nearly 8 lakh litres of water and 18 tonnes of provisions to Kochi on its fleet tanker INS Deepak from Mumbai. The pumping of water from Aluva pump house in Ernakulam, which mainly supplies water to Kochi city, was disrupted after the pump house and electrical equipment were submerged recently.The Kerala Water Authority resumed water supply to three panchayats -- Aluva, Keezhmadu and Choornikkara -- on Sunday morning.

KOCHI: The Western Naval Command on Sunday afternoon brought nearly 8 lakh litres of water and 18 tonnes of provisions to Kochi on its fleet tanker INS Deepak from Mumbai. INS Mysore will also arrive here soon with drinking water and relief material.Cochin Port officials said the drinking water from INS Deepak would be sent to the affected areas in two barges while provisions would be sent in trucks.Relief materials from different parts of India started arriving at Cochin PortIndian Railway has, meanwhile, provided 7.6 lakh litres of drinking water to the state.
