Air India Express flight completes successful trial run at Kannur airport

It landed following six approaches as part of the inspection of the security arrangements and other aspects of the airport. Later, it performed a docking trial as well, by docking with one of the aerobridges in the airport apron.The commercial aircraft, which reached here for the first time, was given water salute by airport fire tender units. The crew members, led by including Captains A Sreenivasan Rao and Aravind Kumar, were welcomed by KIAL managing director V Thulasidas and other officials.The officials said this trial landing was part of the licensing process and it was successful. In the coming days, more commercial aircraft would land as part of the trial before the inauguration of the airport.As of now, the plan is to inaugurate the airport by the end of October said the KIAL officials, who added that the commercial operations would also start immediately after that. KANNUR: Kannur International Airport , which is all set for commercial operation in October-November, crossed an important milestone on Thursday, with the Boeing 737/800 aircraft of the Air India Express successfully landing there as part of the trial flight.Though smaller aircraft had landed here a few of times, it is for the first time a commercial aircraft is landing here, thus underscoring that the airport is ready for commercial operation.The Air India Express, which departed from Thiruvananthapuram airport in the morning landed here around 11.35 am after hovering over the airport for about 45 minutes.
