Biodiversity conservation action plans should be developed after assessing the impact of floods, she suggested at the Steering Committee meeting of the INTERACT-Bio, the integrated sub-national action for biodiversity programme proposed in the city, held in New Delhi on Wednesday. Ms. Jain also highlighted the significance of mangroves and backwater canals in the city and advocated the need to establish mangrove nurseries and canal restoration programmes. She sought help for the septage management programmes in the city. A.K. Mehta, the Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, who presided over the meeting suggested that the action plan proposed for Kochi should help the city develop specific project proposals and approach donor agencies for financial support. He also suggested that a greening guideline for the city may also be developed.
