Compensation awarded

The Railway Claims Tribunal, Ernakulam Bench, has awarded a compensation of ?10.66 lakh to Malabar Cements Limited, Palakkad, for the damages caused to its cement bags transported by the Railway. The order came on a claim application filed by Malabar Cements. The company had entrusted with the Railway in October 2012 cement bags for transporting them from Walayar to West Hill and Vadakara. The tribunal said that the Railway had failed to explain the unjustified delay in the delivery. It contended that while transporting the bags, the consignment loaded onto the wagon was damaged in a landslip caused by floods and the delivery was delayed.
