Rape-accused Mulakkal subjected to potency test

KOTTAYAM: Bishop Franco Mulakkal was subjected to potency test here on Saturday. After the test, bishop was taken to the police club in Kottayam, where he spent the night. At around 10.50pm, the vehicle carrying Franco Mulakkal deviated from the route fixed and headed to the medical college in Kottayam. The bishop who complained of chest pain during the journey was shifted to the examination room in the cardiology department. By around 6.15am the hospital authorities prepared the discharge papers and handed them over to the Police.

KOTTAYAM: Bishop Franco Mulakkal was subjected to potency test here on Saturday. The test was conducted at the forensic department of the Kottayam Government Medical College in the afternoon after the bishop was remanded in police custody by the judicial first-class magistrate’s court, Pala.Earlier, the investigation officer (IO) K Subhash, DSP, Vaikom, had informed the court via the remand report, the need to conduct the potency test. After the test, bishop was taken to the police club in Kottayam, where he spent the night. According to reports, the test results were positive. A detailed report will be handed over to the IO on Monday.The bishop will be taken to the convent in Kuravilangad , where he had allegedly raped the senior nun during the period 2014-16, on Sunday as part of evidence gathering.He will be taken to the room No 20 in the convent where the alleged crime happened. The bishop is likely to be taken there in the morning, when the nuns residing there leave for the church to attend Sunday mass.The trip from Tripunithura to Kottayam on Friday night after the arrest was recorded was filled with intense drama. At around 10.50pm, the vehicle carrying Franco Mulakkal deviated from the route fixed and headed to the medical college in Kottayam. The bishop who complained of chest pain during the journey was shifted to the examination room in the cardiology department. Doctors conducted tests like ECG and scanning and consulted bishop's doctor in Jalandhar . As there were variations in his blood pressure and ECG, the doctors decided to keep him under observation for six hours.He was then shifted to the intensive care unit. The tests were done again in the morning and his health was found to be satisfactory. By around 6.15am the hospital authorities prepared the discharge papers and handed them over to the Police. Police took him to Kottayam Police club by around 9.10am.
