Power disruption brings Metro service to a halt

KOCHI: Metro services came to a halt for about 40 minutes on Saturday due to power supply disruption from KSEB’s sub-station at Kaloor According to Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), the train services came to a halt at 10.25am. It took us sometime to restore operations,” said KMRL spokesperson.The Metro services resumed at 11.12am.Had the trains been stuck on the tracks away from the stations, evacuation would have been a cumbersome process. “Helping people getting out of trains and bringing them down from the viaduct is a tough task. Though KMRL was successful in restoring train services, they are awaiting repair and replacement of certain equipment, which are supplied by foreign manufacturers.Once the spare parts come in the yard, other facilities of the Metro will become completely functional. Fortunately, such circumstances did not occur,” added the spokesperson.Commuters were confused as the trains stopped abruptly.

It took us sometime to restore operations,” said KMRL spokesperson.The Metro services resumed at 11.12am.Had the trains been stuck on the tracks away from the stations, evacuation would have been a cumbersome process. “Helping people getting out of trains and bringing them down from the viaduct is a tough task. Fortunately, such circumstances did not occur,” added the spokesperson.Commuters were confused as the trains stopped abruptly. Most passengers got down from the trains and took other vehicles to reach their destination.The Metro agency maintained that as their systems at Muttom yard were undergoing repair and restoration work, there was some delay in restoring services.“Currently, the Metro is dependent on the sub-stations at Kaloor and Kalamassery for operating services. Hence, it takes us sometime to switch over,” added the spokesperson.It was during the recent deluge that the Metro’s yard and equipment got damaged. Though KMRL was successful in restoring train services, they are awaiting repair and replacement of certain equipment, which are supplied by foreign manufacturers.Once the spare parts come in the yard, other facilities of the Metro will become completely functional.
