more-in The two-day workshop on the latest technologies in foetal radiology, organised by the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA), concluded here on Sunday. Ultra sound scans done at different stages of pregnancy could monitor the health of the growing baby and intervene where needed, said the experts attending the seminar. Radiology had advanced to a stage where details of foetal organs could be imaged as early as in the 20th week of pregnancy. Modern imaging modalities could ensure that the foetal heart, kidneys and the nervous system were functioning in a normal manner. Genetic defects, including down syndrome, could be diagnosed at an early stage and managed appropriately, said the experts. Women undergoing infertility treatment were prone to multiple pregnancy and other complications. Hence, it was imperative that they undergo targeted scanning as advised by gynaecologists for the well-being of both the mother and the foetus. Conditions such as excess fluid in the foetal brain, lungs, gastrointestinal abnormalities and kidney diseases could be detected accurately and treated ante-natally. National president of the IRIA , Dr. K. Mohan, inaugurated the conference. Organising committee chairman Dr. M.R. Balachandran Nair and other office-bearers of the organising committee, Dr. Hemanth Patel, Dr. Jayaraj Govindaraj, Dr. Rijo Mathew, Dr. Amel Antony, Dr. Ramey S. Sheboygan, and Dr. Harshad R. Shah, spoke on the occasion. Dr. Neelam Jain, Dr. P. K. Srivastava and Dr. C. Krishna led the workshops.
