Abhimanyu murder accused to be removed from college rolls

The authorities had earlier issued notices to the accused asking why action should not be taken against them for shortage of attendance. It said that the killing was part of a conspiracy hatched by the Campus Front of India leadership.

more-in Maharaja’s College has decided to remove Muhammed J.I. and Farooq Amani, accused in the murder of slain Students Federation of India (SFI) leader M. Abhimanyu, from the rolls of the institution. The college will soon issue an official letter stating that they have been removed from the rolls for shortage of attendance. Principal K.N. Krishna Kumar told The Hindu on Friday that a student absent from the college for more than fifteen consecutive working days without satisfactory explanation was liable to have his or her name removed from the rolls as per the rules. The authorities had earlier issued notices to the accused asking why action should not be taken against them for shortage of attendance. The college council had suspended both Muhammed, a third-year student of B.A. Arabic, and Farooq, a first-year student of B.A. Economics, for their alleged involvement in the brutal murder of Abhimanyu, a second-year undergraduate student of B.Sc Environmental Chemistry, on July 2. Abhimanyu was stabbed to death allegedly by a gang comprising members of the Campus Front of India, Social Democratic Party of India and the Popular Front of India, following differences over wall graffiti welcoming newcomers to the campus. As per the case, a 16-member gang of the Campus Front of India, the Social Democratic Party of India and the Popular Front of India assembled with deadly weapons behind the college campus with the intention to do away with student leaders of the SFI and attacked them as conspired earlier. Arjun, a graduate student of Philosophy, and Vineeth, a postgraduate student of Economics, had received serious stab injuries in the attack. Muhammed is the first accused as per the chargesheet submitted before the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court-II by the Special Investigation Team. It said that the killing was part of a conspiracy hatched by the Campus Front of India leadership. Farooq was included among the 13 others directly involved in the crime.
