Students gift ray of hope to flood-hit families

LED bulbs assembled by the students were distributed free of cost to flood-hit families in the panchayat. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the students of the physics department of St. Teresa’s College lent a helping hand to light up the homes of flood-hit families of Pizhala panchayat. Pizhala panchayat was one of the worst hit in floods in the district. Pizhala panchayat standing committee member Benny Erathara presided over the function. Inaugurating the function, Sr. Vinitha, the director of the college, highlighted the importance of conservation of nature and energy.

The project christened as ‘Ray of Hope’ was taken up under the programme ICONNECT (Initiatives for Conservation of Nature and Energy Coordinated by Teresians) with financial support from the State Bank of India. LED bulbs assembled by the students were distributed free of cost to flood-hit families in the panchayat. Pizhala panchayat was one of the worst hit in floods in the district. Around 500 bulbs were distributed at a function held recently. Speaking on the occasion, Kala M.S., head of the department, said the college had been proactive in meeting the emerging challenges in society as part of its social responsibility. Inaugurating the function, Sr. Vinitha, the director of the college, highlighted the importance of conservation of nature and energy. Pizhala panchayat standing committee member Benny Erathara presided over the function.
